Michelle Gross

Our Spencer County School District is proud to celebrate Michelle Gross, a dedicated middle school math teacher, who has been named the 2026 Kentucky Teacher of the Year by the Kentucky Department of Education.

Mrs. Gross was honored during a special ceremony in Frankfort recognizing outstanding educators from across the Commonwealth. Known for her passion for helping students see how math connects to the real world, she inspires learners to think beyond the classroom and apply problem-solving skills to everyday life.

As part of this recognition, Mrs. Gross will receive a $10,000 cash prize and the opportunity to spend a six-month sabbatical with the Kentucky Department of Education as an ambassador of the teaching profession.

In her remarks, Gross shared her vision for education across Kentucky:

โ€œI want to build a culture of learning throughout the state of Kentucky thatโ€™s rooted in community. I want to see every voice uplifted. I want it expand beyond a single classroom or a single year.โ€

With more than 22 years of teaching experience, Gross continues to bring innovation and creativity to her classroom. One of her signature projects, the annual Dream Homerama, engages students in designing their dream homes, building 3D models, and presenting their plans to professionals such as architects, contractors, interior designers, real estate agents, and community members.

Superintendent Dr. Willie Foster praised Mrs. Grossโ€™s achievement:

โ€œMichelle Gross represents the very best of Spencer County. Her dedication to her students, her creativity in the classroom, and her love for education shine through every day. We are so proud to see her recognized at the state level.โ€

The Kentucky Teacher of the Year program honors exceptional teachers who exemplify excellence in teaching, leadership, and service to their school communities. Mrs. Gross will now serve as an ambassador for public education in Kentucky, sharing her expertise and passion with educators across the state.

Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Michelle Gross on this outstanding achievement and in celebrating the impact she continues to make on the lives of her students and the Spencer County community.
