What is Section 504?
Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 is a federal civil rights law that prohibits discrimination against individuals with disabilities. It ensures that a student with a disability has equal access to an education and may receive accommodations and services necessary for academic success.
A 504 Plan is designed to provide support and remove barriers for students with disabilities so they can participate fully in school activities and learning.
Who Qualifies for a 504 Plan?
A student may qualify for a 504 Plan if they have a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities, such as:
Learning

Reading

Communicating
